At Primary Windings Ltd, we’re ambitious and always looking to grow by offering genuine engineering solutions grounded in experience, knowledge, and craftsmanship. Our mission is to provide components that our customers will genuinely treasure.
Our Story
Primary Windings began over a decade ago as a passion project to create high-quality transformers for Guitar and Hi-Fi enthusiasts. Our very first transformers were painstakingly wound on a homemade winding machine. It quickly became apparent that there was a real appetite for the transformers we were producing, so we expanded and invested in advanced winding equipment to meet the growing demand.
From those early days, we went from strength to strength, proudly supplying Amp Maker with all their EI-based wound components and steadily building our reputation for excellence.
In April 2023, we took a significant step forward and officially became Primary Windings Ltd.
In early 2024, we acquired the winding business of Spring Europe Ltd, enhancing our capabilities to include:
- Ferrite designs
- RM cores
- Solenoid winding
- Winding of small toroidal inductors and transformers
We've now made substantial investments in state-of-the-art winding machinery, including benchtop winders, pull winders, automation, and precision tooling to ensure faster, more efficient production.
Fast Turnaround & Flexible Production
We specialise in fast turnaround times, particularly for new designs, prototypes and small batches of 20 to 200 parts. But our capacity doesn’t stop there — we can accommodate annual quantities of up to 10,000 parts or more.
Commitment to quality
Our testing capabilities are second to none. We own:
- High-accuracy inductance bridges
- LCR meters
- Benchtop multimeters
- Signal generators
All our test equipment is calibrated annually to maintain our rigorous standards. Additionally, we use a small thermal chamber and other environmental testing equipment to ensure our components are built to last.

Being based in the UK offers our UK and EU customers a significant advantage. We’re just a phone call away and can visit you in person to discuss your requirements or make adjustments to your designs face-to-face.
We have strong, long-standing relationships with our EU clients. Around 30% of our trade is conducted within the EU. Our aim is to continue expanding this valuable partnership.
